THE GOAL MINDED TEACHER. UNIT 4.2

WEEK4- CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

4.3-Reflections

  • ·    What is in your teacher survival kit?

My Survival Kit consists of my backpack, my agenda (I use both, digital and analogic), a hard disk where I have a full of exercises and examples, and unlimited practice problems (with hints!), where you can check your answer with the click of a button. A pile of paper and graph paper, pens and pencils, color pencils, highlighters and erasers, and art supplies. Never forget, a ruler and a calculator. Don’t forget, every other day, a pinch of imagination, because always you need add it to your patience.

  • ·   How will your teacher survival kit help you better manage your classroom?

The survival kit helps because you never know what may happen in the classroom with the internet or other unforeseen. It will keep the students working and learning.

  • ·   How will creating a resource hub for parents help you engage parents so that students behave better online and in your classroom?

With a simple recommendations and links we can give them an approach of the basics of privacy and how to help children create a safe  digital environment. The teacher and parents can be on the same page. The must keep an eye on what the kids are doing on the internet.

THE GOAL MINDED TEACHER. UNIT 3.3

WEEK3- EFFECTIVE THECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION

3.3-Reflection unit 3
To finish, a reflection about what have we learned in this unit and the exchanges with other participants.

·          How will you adapt your curriculum according to one or more of the digital learning theories?

After learn about the SAMR model, I will try to change in my classroom the Augmentation and Modification by the Redemption. These changes are looking forward the interest of the students in the learning process and grow up the engagement. Moreover try to adapt the class and work with the technologies that they are used to use in their relationships and games every day.
We can´t forgive the lesson plans and improve their skills in Math, Language Arts, Social and Arts and Culture. We should try work with real situations or real problems to teach how solve it.
For example, the form we have used in the survey let us immediately compare and check the student’s answers, with percentages and graphs, same way, a quiz or a test for check about the contents, let us see what are the weakness and fix it.
·         How will teaching students about their digital footprint benefit them
The most important is that they learn that these tools are not only for playing or sharing photo/video. They are for learning, enjoy and being creative, BUT use it safely; Don`t forget about the risks. They must know that all that they do or write online, instantly is recorded, so they have to behave always correctly and take responsibility of their acts.
Some recommendations could be take care of the passwords, frequently parents checking about what are they doing, watching or playing with on internet, remind talk about the internet safety and take care of sharing personal photos or videos, because they are public.

WEEK3- EFFECTIVE THECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION

3.2-Survey students about their digital footprints
The next task is about comparing my digital footprint with my student’s digital footprint. For that, we have created a formulary asking the students about their footprint. The survey is about the way they use technology, social media, apps, and the Internet to access information and exchange knowledge.
There is the link https://goo.gl/forms/vACTq60cBV8TqYRh2 with the form
This is my survey. 15 students of 8th grade and their teacher about our digital footprints.

When we analyze the survey, is a surprise that the first time my students used an computing device and their first access to internet is very similar, between 9-10 years old, but most join their first social network, later, at 11. Always (75 %) asking permission, and continuing being checked frequently or random (90%). Moreover these parents have talked about the internet safety. None of the students ever have been bullied online.
About the time they spend online or messaging, 82 % at least 1 hour a day (probably a bit more, because the other answers were between 2-3 hours and it’s hard to recognize). This is similar to the percentage of students who have shared photos or videos online.
As a conclusion, the survey try to ask students about their diary routines on the computer, sometimes for their homework and other times for their relationships and make them think about how much time use the computer and are online. As teacher, I have to fight every day with the mobile because they are hanged on the Snapchat or WhatsApp, more than in their task at class.

WEEK3- EFFECTIVE THECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION

3.1-Create a mindmap of one of the digital learning theories

The first challenge is research and evaluates different digital learning models, and creates a mindmap of one, in my case of the SAMR. The web tool I have used is Bubbl.us

This is my mindmap.

THE GOAL MINDED TEACHER. UNIT 2

WEEK2- MISSION AND BADGE

We have finished the lesson plan of systems of equations. The original assignment – Solve a real word problem of systems of equations, must be transformed into a learning mission, so we are going to be creative and useful with a word problem which helps you to take money for the field trip in a fundraiser.

Here it is my link for my challenge:

Everybody likes rewards, so if the students do good they will receive this badge.

This is the digital badge I've created in http://www.makebadg.es/

REFLECTION

How will transforming an activity into a learning mission engage my students?
During this week our challenge has been find new ways to motivate our students. The first part has consisted on turning an activity into a Learning Mission, looking for engage our students and trying to observe a change in their work, simulating some type of game in groups. The winners will receive a badge, will increase their grades and the rest of the class will be proud of their work.

How can digital badges motivate my students?
The badge will help to stimulate and recover the demotivated students who normally don’t pay attention in class. They can show the award to their parents, teachers, and classmates and will be always visible in their folder or in a reserved part of the class for the winners of each new project.
